Frequently Asked Questions

What type of Sorority are you?

Alpha Chi, being a social sorority, socializes with other sororities and fraternities within the Chico State community. We also enjoy sisterhood trips, bi-annual formals, camping, shopping, barbecues, rollerskating, movie nights, and many other activities.  We also hold an annual retreat in Reno before the Fall semester begins.

When do you recruit girls?

We Recruit girls both in the Fall and Spring semesters. This gives girls who are feeling lonely after leaving the nest, an opportunity to meet new friends, and find their Chico Home Away From Home. Whether you've just transferred, are attending Butte, or new to Chico and are looking to make some new friends, Alpha Chi is the right choice for you!

What are the costs?

Since we are a local sorority, fees are considerably less than National Sororities. We have no Rush Fee, our Pledging Fees are only $80, your Initiation Pin is $50, and there is no Initiation Fee. The Active Member fees are also only $80 a semester, plus $20 in Parlor Fees for girls who don't live in the house. This is for toilet paper, etc.  and use of the soda machine.

Is there a GPA requirement?

Alpha Chi does not require a GPA for our recruitment events.
Alpha Chi does encourages high attainment and scholarship in all its members within it's organization. Active members who are running for positions must have a GPA higher than a 2.0 to take that position.

Why aren't you affiliated?

Alpha Chi chooses not to be affiliated with the Chico State Campus. Although we are not affiliated with the Chico State Campus, that doesn't mean we're not active on campus, in the community, and making our mark on the world.

Do you have to live in the house?

It's a privilege to live in the Alpha Chi House. The experience is highly encouraged by girls who've lived their previously.  We own a beautiful two-story home with a finished basement, located on the corner of E 4th and Orient Street. It is a convenient location, just blocks from downtown and campus, as well as within walking distance of historical Bidwell Park.

Is Alpha Chi a time commitment?

We have a little saying, "You get out, what you put in." If you attend events, hold positions, join committees, talk to girls that you wouldn't normally talk to, and take your time to impact the sorority.  You'll leave your mark within Alpha Chi, and experience the all the great benefits of the true meaning of Sisterhood.
